Attend Public Hearings

HEARINGS

A Board of County Commissioners Hearing will be scheduled within the next few months.  Please check back frequently or join our mailing list for updates.

The first hearing for the AES Conditional Use Permit took place on 12/4/24.  The Hearing Officer (who presided over this first hearing) listened to testimony from county staff, AES, 2 local registered organizations and members of the public.  Then following two weeks for review of all evidence and testimony presented, the hearing officer recommendation to the county commission was:
DENY THE AES RANCHO VIEJO APPLICATION!!

The hearing officer is a licensed attorney with the state of New Mexico and determines if an application legally complies with county codes and regulations.
A Hearing officer can recommend to approve, deny or approve with changes.
The recommendation regarding the AES Rancho Viejo Solar permit was to DENY and this decision was based on the criteria required in county codes and plans.

The 2nd hearing took place in early February, and despite the Hearing Officers recommendation to DENY the AES application, and despite all of the testimony provided by local organizations and community members opposed to this facility, in less than one hour of deliberation, the planning commission approved the AES permit.

Support New Mexico in transitioning to clean energy, while avoiding unnecessary risks to our communities and further destruction to our environment.
